QUICK OVERVIEW OF FOLIO VIEWS

HELP

The complete Folio VIEWS User's Guide in electronic format is available as a part of this product. It is accessed through the HELP menu option. Folio HELP is a separate infobase and may be searched using all of the operations described herein.

ORGANIZATION

Your Folio VIEWS version of the Codified Ordinances is organized according to the print set: Index, Comparative Section Table, Charter, and Component Codes.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

The Table of Contents allows you to use the infobase like an electronic book. It allows you to quickly browse the infobase and link in at any level since every heading in the Table of Contents is linked automatically to the corresponding record in the infobase.

The Table of Contents is hierarchical and is organized around the levels of the infobase. A plus sign in front of a heading tells you that there are more levels within that heading. The Table of Contents expands to show all levels in the infobase and collapses again to the main headings you are using. Double click on the plus (+) or minus (-) sign next to the heading to expand or collapse. Double click on an entry in the Table of Contents at any level to jump directly to that record of the infobase.

SEARCHING

TOPTop

The most important function of Folio VIEWS is searching. Beside using the Table of Contents to quickly browse the contents of an infobase and automatically link to the appropriate section there are two other basic ways to perform a search including "locating a citation" and entering a "query".

CITE LOCATOR

When searching for a specific section number you can use the Cite Locator found under the Search Menu. Type the citation in the box and select OK.

This will link you directly to the first instance of that citation.

QUERY

Folio VIEWS provides instant results because every word and number is indexed in an infobase. When you type in a word, combination of words or a number, the "query map" instantly displays the search results. You can then jump from one "hit" to the next or "backtrack" to previous hits.

CUSTOMIZE YOUR INFORMATION

TOPTop

You can personalize your Municipal infobase to make it even more efficient and to access most used information areas even faster. This flexibility is one of Folio VIEWS' greatest assets.

Before you customize your Folio VIEWS, a "shadow file" is created, which is like a transparency or overlay to the infobase. This allows you to keep your own notes, highlighters and bookmarks, but actually stores these changes in a separate file from the infobase. You can have as many shadow files an you need in your office.

NOTES...

You can place electronic "sticky notes" next to paragraphs or sections without disrupting the flow of information. A small icon at the beginning of a record or paragraph will indicate that a note is attached. Notes can be searched independently of the infobase.

HIGHLIGHTER...

You can use electronic highlighters just as you would highlight the text in a book. Each infobase can store an unlimited number of highlighters, each customized with its own characteristics such as font, point size and color, for quick visual identification. These can also be searched independently of the infobase.

BOOKMARKS...

You can use bookmarks to mark information or an unlimited number of important areas. These bookmarks help users to return to key points even quicker.
